Comparison

FOCL vs ShootProof for wedding photographers

An honest comparison of galleries, pricing, video, downloads, the print store and the wedding-day side. Where each one wins, with ShootProof's prices as of September 2026.

Updated September 2026

We make FOCL, so read this with that in mind. ShootProof takes no commission on anything and puts contracts and invoices in every paid plan. Prices are from shootproof.com/plans and its help center on 12 September 2026, and from our own pricing page. ShootProof’s plans change on 23 September 2026, from photo counts to gigabytes, with video hosting added.

The short version

Choose ShootProof if you want a commission-free store on every plan including Free, contracts and invoices in every paid plan, booking for $4.99 a month, email marketing, client mobile apps, phone support, cheap archiving, or unlimited photo storage at the top.

Choose FOCL if you shoot weddings and want the day itself handled too: timeline, shot list, family photo list, couple portal and a phone app that works with no signal, next to galleries with about 5 times the storage for the money and unmetered downloads.

FOCL Galleries also works for portraits, families and events. Create a standalone gallery with a client or session name; no wedding is needed. In Settings → Downloads, choose which sections or individual photos clients can download while keeping the others visible. How download controls work.

Pricing

Until 23 September 2026, ShootProof meters photos (100 on Free, then 1,500, 5,000, 25,000 and unlimited) at the same prices. The table uses the new gigabyte plans from their plan-change FAQ, updated 26 August 2026.

FOCLShootProof from 23 September 2026
Free3 GB, photos only3 GB, photos only
Around $10 a monthEssentials: 100 GB, $10 monthly or $100 a yearStarter: 20 GB of photos and video, $9.99 monthly or $99.99 a year
Around $20 a monthStudio: 500 GB, $19 monthly or $190 a yearStandard: 100 GB of photos and video, $19.99 monthly or $199.99 a year
Around $32 a monthProfessional: 1,000 GB of photos plus 50 GB of video, $31.99 monthly or $319.99 a year
$39 to $52 a monthPro: 2 TB, $39 monthly or $390 a yearAdvanced: 2,000 GB of photos plus 100 GB of video, $51.99 monthly or $519.99 a year
$60 a monthPremium: unlimited photos plus 150 GB of video, $60 monthly or $600 a year

Like for like, FOCL gives you about 5 times the storage: 100 GB for $10 against 20 GB for $9.99, and 500 GB for $19 against 100 GB for $19.99. At 2 TB, FOCL is $39 against $51.99; above 2 TB, ShootProof’s Premium is unlimited for photos and FOCL has no answer.

ShootProof has one lever FOCL does not: archiving. Archived photos stop counting against your plan, from $2.99 a month for 25 GB and 5 cents per further gigabyte; photo archiving is included on Premium. FOCL has no cold tier.

Both free plans are 3 GB of photos. ShootProof’s has your logo and watermark, commission-free selling and email marketing, but no video, invoicing or contracts. FOCL’s has unlimited galleries and couples, your logo, watermarks, passwords, expiry dates and full-resolution downloads; only video needs a paid plan.

Downloads and bandwidth

FOCL does not meter downloads or bandwidth. Storage is the only thing we count. A guest can download one section on its own, large ZIPs are emailed as a link valid for 7 days, and a download PIN is optional.

ShootProof does not publish a bandwidth figure, and we could not verify one. Its download rules are more granular: several free-download rules per gallery, linked contact and album, each with its own size, per-visitor count, PIN, print release and optional watermark. If your model is “5 free downloads, then buy the rest”, ShootProof is built for that and FOCL is not.

Video

ShootProof’s help center says video hosting arrives in September with the new plans, up to 4K. On Starter and Standard, video shares the pool with photos; on Professional, Advanced and Premium it has its own cap of 50, 100 and 150 GB. Per-file limits are not published, so ask first.

FOCL hosts video on paid plans now, up to 30 GB per file, counted against the same storage as your photos. It streams at the quality the connection supports, downloads as the original or 1080p, and is never in the ZIP or watermarked. Files above roughly 200 Mbps bitrate cannot be processed, so export a delivery version.

FOCL’s 2 TB can be all video; ShootProof’s Advanced caps video at 100 GB. See delivering wedding video alongside photos.

The wedding day itself

ShootProof’s studio tools run the business before the wedding: e-sign contracts, invoices with tipping, questionnaires and the $4.99 a month booking add-on. FOCL has none of that; it runs the day. The same subscription gives you:

Galleries, feature by feature

Both do the essentials: albums, covers, favorites, passwords, expiry, watermarks and a print store.

FOCL extras that matter for weddings:

ShootProof extras FOCL does not have:

ShootProof takes no commission on any plan, including Free, on prints, products, digital files and invoice payments, once you connect a payment gateway. It has labs in several countries and promo codes. FOCL’s prints are made by WHCC; you set a markup over the lab cost and keep the difference, and FOCL handles payment and shipping, with payouts through Stripe. ShootProof’s store is the broader one. Our guide to pricing prints in your gallery applies to both.

Switching

On 23 September, ShootProof moves you to the equivalent new plan; if you store more than it allows, you are moved up at your current price for a year. Moving to FOCL is a download and an upload: export each gallery at full resolution and drag the folders into a FOCL gallery. Your couples get a new link. There is no importer for favorites or visitor history.

The verdict

If prints, products and digital files are a real part of your income, you want zero commission, and you want contracts and invoices next to your galleries, ShootProof is the safer choice, and Premium wins above 2 TB of photos.

If you are a wedding photographer first, and want the day run from your pocket and photos and films delivered without watching a video cap, FOCL is built for that, at about a fifth of the price per gigabyte below 2 TB. Start on the free plan and see, or read FOCL vs Pixieset for the wider field.
