New in FOCL: watermarked previews, clean downloads

Keep your logo on gallery previews and let clients download clean photos. FOCL now gives you a separate download watermark switch.

Updated October 2026

A watermark can belong on a gallery preview without belonging on the photos your clients download. FOCL now lets you choose those behaviors separately.

Previously, enabling a gallery watermark also made client downloads watermarked web-size copies. There was no separate control for delivering clean files while leaving the viewing gallery watermarked. The new Watermark downloads switch adds that choice.

Keep previews marked and downloads clean

  1. Open your gallery, then Settings → Watermark.
  2. Leave Apply watermark on. This keeps your studio logo or text visible while clients browse.
  3. Turn Watermark downloads off. The change saves automatically.

Clients can now download the original file with High resolution, or a smaller clean copy with Web size. Gallery and section ZIPs contain originals. Shared-set downloads follow the same setting, so a vendor link can deliver clean files too.

Your gallery’s download permissions and PIN still apply. This setting changes the files delivered; it does not enable downloads for photos you have made view-only.

The same Settings → Watermark page includes logo uploads, text, position, size and opacity. Editing creates a design just for this gallery. Other galleries and your studio branding stay the same. Use studio defaults returns the gallery to your reusable design.

Choose Tiled for a repeating pattern across the whole photo, including its corners. The preview uses your gallery photo and updates immediately as you adjust the controls.

Still need watermarked proofs?

Leave Watermark downloads on. With Apply watermark on and an active gallery design, clients receive watermarked web-size copies, including in ZIPs. Those downloads wait until the watermarked copies are ready.

Clean downloads do not need to wait for watermark processing. FOCL keeps your original uploads untouched in either mode, and videos are never watermarked.

What happens to existing galleries?

Existing galleries keep their previous download watermark setting. Nothing switches them to clean downloads automatically. New galleries start with clean downloads selected; you can turn download watermarking on when you need it.

After changing the setting, ask clients to start a new download. Previously prepared ZIP links are invalidated. Files already saved to someone’s device do not change, and FOCL cannot remove a watermark baked into an image before it was uploaded.

A visible watermark can discourage reuse of a screenshot, but it cannot prevent screenshots. For setup details, see watermark settings and download controls.

Choose how clients receive your photos

Keep your watermark on gallery previews, and choose whether downloaded photos carry it too.
